8 Times The Terror: Infamy
Made Us Jump Out of Our Seats

AMC’s horror anthology The Terror is back for a second season, and The Terror: Infamy focuses on events both historical and supernatural. Set in America during World War II, it follows a group of Japanese Americans who are uprooted from their small community of Terminal Island, Calif., to an internment camp after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Throughout the course of the 10-episode series, the main characters—among them Derek Mio as young U.S.-born Chester Nakayama and George Takei as elder statesman Yamato-san—are followed by a mysterious (and murderous!) shape-shifting spirit.

Takei, who was placed in two such camps as a child, served as a consultant on the show, which is a haunting and suspenseful record of the overlooked story of Japanese American internment. We were lucky enough to preview the first two episodes of the series, and let’s just say: It lives up to its name. Before you tune in for the premiere of The Terror: Infamy on Monday, Aug. 12, at 9 ET/8 CT on AMC, allow us to intrigue you with the moments that made us squirm.

If you’re eating during the opening scene of the first episode, we’d recommend that you stop while watching this woman take a fateful waterside walk. Or maybe just drop the popcorn, potato chips, or other crunchy snacks. You’ve been warned!

You may as well find a reliable tailor, because from this moment on you’ll have an unshakable fear of loose threads.

A stiff breeze that comes out of nowhere during a funeral procession—what could go wrong? We won’t spoil it, but: plenty. One woman calls it “an ill omen,” and we’d say that’s an understatement.

When Chester—a 22-year-old aspiring photographer aching to break free of his small California town—processes a roll of film he shot at the funeral, something strange appears in one shot. Could it be the source of the event’s unrest?

Here’s our first indication of what this mysterious malevolent spirit is capable of, and it has us reaching for our sunglasses and SPF 100.

When a tea-leaf reading begins with a woman burning her hand over an open flame without flinching, you know the results are going to be intense. Consider us intrigued by what they mean for Chester’s future.

So we’re definitely scared
of wind now, too.

Another strange sighting, another scene where chaos reigns. It seems that for this haunted community, there’s no escaping the supernatural or the injustices at the hands of the U.S. government. It’s even more horrifying to know that many of these wartime events are rooted in real-life history. We’ll be tuning in for the rest of the season to see how the mystery unravels and the Terminal Islanders persevere.

THE TERROR: INFAMY premieres Monday, August 12 at 9 ET/8 CT on AMC.
